Shower to the People

Corporate Giving – Make “We Care” Bath-Packs!

Help your employees or co-workers to “share their bounty” by providing bags filled with soap, shampoo, conditioner and more to families in need.

For most of us, a trip to the grocery store means filling our shopping cart with much more than food… We may need soap or shampoo… laundry detergent or paper towels… toothpaste or toilet paper.

But for families living in poverty depending on government-issued SNAP cards for their weekly groceries (formerly food stamps), these non-food everyday necessities can be hard to come by.  That’s because while food items can be purchased with SNAP cards, non-food items can’t – meaning that if you’re poor, even a daily shower with soap and shampoo can be an unaffordable luxury.

The list of what families CAN’T buy with SNAP benefits includes a long list of things most of us wouldn’t dream of living without – soap, shampoo, deodorant, toilet paper, conditioner, toothpaste, laundry detergent, diapers, and everything we use to clean our homes.

The Shower To The People ‘We Care Bath-Pack Project’ is a personal and direct way for your workplace to provide a community of moms, dads and children living in poverty with the personal care products they need to rise and shine each day.

How does it work?

First email us at and tell us approximately how many “bath-packs” your company would like to make.  We’ll match you with one of the impoverished communities we help, and give you specific information on the family make-up of the families from that community you’ll be helping (e.g., one might be: The Rebecca R. family – a 32 year old single mom with 3 children, a 14 year old girl, a 6 year old boy and an 11 month old baby girl).

The idea is for your employees to come together at a designated time and fill one or more large zip-lock bags with brand new shower and personal care items for each family we have matched you with.

After you get your list of families, ask your employees/co-workers to each bring in one bar of soap.  Your company buys the rest.

What goes in each ‘Bath-Pack’?

Each family should receive shampoo, conditioner, body wash, soap, deodorant, a washcloth or lufa, toothpaste and a toothbrush for each family member.  If your group would like to do even more, you can also add in any of the following:

A plastic soap case
Body cream/moisturizer
