There is a Chinese proverb, "Give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime." The same can be said for fruits, vegetables and eggs.
Please consider joining us in helping an impoverished American family become self-sustaining.
How? Family-to-Family’s Victory Garden Project.
With your generous donation of $100, Family-to-Family will provide a Victory Garden Kit for one family in need, living in one of our sponsored communities.
To date we’ve helped families in need with emergency food relief. The Victory Garden project takes that effort one step further – by providing families with the means to grow and produce some of their very own food.
With the help of an identified master gardener in each of the communities listed below, our recipient families will receive the support they need to grow their own fruits and vegetables. Eggs are in the mix too . . . 10 egg- laying chickens will be provided to every family so a hearty breakfast is available to all!
How does it work?
Continuing our notion that one family can make a difference in the life of another, each donor’s $100 Victory Garden contribution supplies one Victory Garden kit for one recipient family.
Each kit contains:
• Assorted gardening hand tools
• A watering can
• Seeds for planting two 5ft. X 8ft. beds
• One case of pint/quart jars
• 10 egg-laying chickens
• Chicken feed to start
• Water dispenser for chicks
• "How to garden" manual
Paying it Forward
Each donated Victory Garden creates its own chain of events, because after one growing season, each family that receives a “Victory Garden” will “pay it forward”… that is, mentor another family by teaching them the planting and farming skills they have learned. That second family will receive the same Victory Garden Kit from a second donor family that contains the same items and so on.
We hope you’ll consider donating a Victory Garden Kit. We believe ‘the possibilities’ created by growing one’s own food can empower families… both by enabling them to help themselves, and by giving them the opportunity to pass on what they’ve learned. Please join us as we encourage those among us who need help taking that next step…
